As of the 25th February 2021, we are very excited to have reopened and to once again be welcoming guests back to our beautiful boutique resort in Khao Lak, Thailand. Whilst the pandemic has continued for much longer than anyone initially envisaged, we are thrilled to be able to be taking this positive step forward and reopening. To tell us a little more, The Sarojin owners, Kate and Andrew Kemp, discuss what’s been happening behind closed doors in the past year and what guests can expect to see when they return…
“We are absolutely delighted to have reopened and are so pleased to be able once again to warmly welcome guests back to The Sarojin, whether it’s their first time staying with us or a return visit.
As guests return, we feel it’s very important that the look and ambiance of The Sarojin is just as guests would always expect – a luxurious, welcoming retreat offering a variety of unique tailormade experiences “just for 2”. Beautifully located on an 11km secluded white sand beach and nestled within 10 acres of lush tropical gardens The Sarojin by nature and design has always been perfect for social distancing, offering much personal privacy, serenity and space.
All 56 luxurious guest residences have their own separate entrances (no corridors or lift lobbies) and all have their own private indoor and outdoor areas. Other facilities include our sumptuous garden infinity pool with spacious surrounding pool pavilions, cabanas and loungers, two airy garden and beach restaurants and bars – Ficus and Edge, and our beautiful nature spa, Pathways. The Sarojin really offers plenty of space to relax and “just be”.
We’ve never served buffets at The Sarojin and breakfast remains as our signature “all day a la carte breakfast served with sparkling wine” and is a wonderful way to start any day on holiday. We also continue to offer a variety of unique and very romantic private dining options – from beneath a candle lit jungle waterfall or on a secluded beach to being a castaway on your own private sand isle surrounded by the ocean. We are so fortunate to have such a wonderful array of stunning locations surrounding The Sarojin that together with our amazing team we are able to offer guests the opportunity to choose where and how they want to dine – they pick the time, place and menu for their own unique and memorable experience.
Our excursions are equally private and personalised, whether a land-based adventure exploring the local national parks or a private charter aboard our luxury Lady Sarojin yacht. By boat, guests can snorkel or SCUBA in the beautiful Similan and Surin Islands or cruise and explore Phang Nga Bay. Together with our personal guides, our guests are free to roam “just for 2”, explore our stunning and adventurous surroundings and learn more about Thailand, its beauty, culture, people and local way of life.
Thailand implemented an international, national and provincial lock down very early and has reported a very low number of Covid-19 cases to date. Indeed, Khao Lak and Phang Nga have reported only single digit cases throughout the pandemic, with no new cases now for several months. Mask wearing is compulsory for everyone when outside except for eating, drinking or exercising. Contact tracing is mandatory. These measures together with social distancing policies have greatly assisted the situation. The Thai population feel quite safe with these precautions in place and likewise we feel confident that our guests will also feel safe and comfortable during their stay. We have always taken the health and wellbeing of our guests very seriously and have further enhanced our own safety and sanitisation measures. The Sarojin is certified under the Amazing Thailand Health and Safety scheme. Guests staying with us are required to wear face masks, with the exception when residing within their own guest residence areas, on a sun lounger by the pool or beach, dining or exercising. Temperature checks are taken daily, and hand sanitising stations are located throughout the resort. If needed, guests can receive a PCR Covid-19 test at Takuapa Hospital which is just 20 minutes from The Sarojin.
While closed, our staff took it in turns to keep a small rotating team at the resort at all times to ensure all our facilities were maintained to the highest standard. In more recent months when rules allowed, we were permitted to host small social gatherings for our staff to boost morale and over Christmas we were able to invite some children from the local Baan Than Namchai Orphanage to The Sarojin for a socially distanced lunch, games and gifts which was really magical. The children usually visit us every Christmas Eve to enjoy dinner and festive songs with our guests, so we were thrilled to be able to maintain this tradition in some way. We have also kept our beach cleaning and environmental management initiatives in place throughout the last year, remaining connected to our local community. To keep in touch with our partners overseas, we also hosted a virtual familiarisation trip in January for 120 travel agents in Europe, who were able to tour our guest residences, gardens, pool and finally join our Resident Manager, Khun Kade and team to watch a live sunset on our beach.
Whilst we celebrate this positive step back towards normality, we are extremely mindful of the difficult times that have passed and want to take this opportunity to thank our incredible team that have made this moment possible. Together we are more than a just workforce, we are a family that has remained #SarojinUnited throughout this pandemic. Our staff have all adapted to the situation with such professionalism and resilience it’s been truly inspiring. Everyone has learnt new skills to help take care of the resort and to support each other. It’s only with this readiness to multitask, flexibility, resilience, team spirit, hard work and support of each other that The Sarojin has been able to reopen. We are very grateful and thankful that we’ve been able to retain such a super team, meaning many of the familiar faces amongst are staff that make a stay at The Sarojin truly unique will be waiting when guests return.
In the absence of foreign tourist arrivals due to the current quarantine restrictions in Thailand, we initially expect the majority of our guests to be Thai Residents who can enjoy our newly launched two-night luxury escape package from just THB 15,032,which can be booked as part of the Thai government’s supplementary domestic travel scheme.”
